This job requires the incumbent to:
Facilitate the mediation process that assists parties to arrive at a mutually acceptable agreement.  The mediator must remain neutral and keep in confidence all the information obtained during mediation sessions in accordance with the Code of Ethics. Work includes giving all parties an equal opportunity to be heard and to respond, ensures that negotiations take place in a fair and balanced manner, helps parties identify his or her own needs, evaluates options and develop solutions. 

• Receives and reviews Notes for conciliation from the Legal Unit;
• Co-ordinates and conducts pre-conciliation meetings;
• Co-ordinates and facilitates the conciliation process;
• Maintains the integrity of the conciliation process with a high degree of professionalism;
• Drafts conciliation agreements at the end of the conciliation process or memorandum to the Legal Unit advising that no resolution was reached;
• Prepares reports for submission to the Equal Opportunity Commission; and
• Supervises and trains staff of the Conciliation Unit.

• Workflow Management: The ability and willingness to perform work within defined timelines.
• Competency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

• A Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant discipline. The degree should include disciplines such as Sociology and Public Sector Management.
• Diploma or Certificate in Mediation (Accreditation by the Mediation Board would be desirable rather than compulsory).
• Extensive experience and training in Mediation or Co-Mediation.
• Experience or training in Human Resource Management.
• Familiarity with the provisions of the Mediation Act would be an asset.
• Courses in Dispute Resolution would be an asset.
